About New Orleans

In the southern part of the United States of America, near the gulf of Mexico lies the city of New Orleans. This city, the capital of Louisiana, is touted as one of the oldest American cities. New Orleans is said to be the place where Jazz had its origin, and swept the whole world. So it comes as no surprise that the whole city exudes that musical spirits of happiness. One can find musicians performing on every nook and corner throughout the day. The party scene is lit throughout the year. It is as if New Orleanians just need a reason to party! The three necessary ingredients for a truly luxurious life worth living- eating, drinking and fun time, all are what New Orleans excels at. Jazz is not the only genre of music played throughout the city. The music varies, but all hearts remain connected with the same spirit of joy. One is probable to attend the concert of their life while in this city where Concerts and live events are a daily affair. Festivals like the Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest attract millions of tourists from all over the world and every hour is party hour. New Orleans has been considered to be an adult tourist destination catering to the 18+ crowd and their likings. But there is so much more to the city than that. Families can enjoy the lively spirit just as much as any other travelling group. The locals take great pride in the rich history and culture of the city. New Orleans boasts of an explosion of multicultural unity. People with multi ethnic backgrounds live and thrive here. For most of the tourists, the french part of town is where most of the attractions lie, but additional surprises await the more curious ones. Many old-line restaurants are in there, along with music clubs, museums, antiques shops, and drinking establishments. A few establishments even offer pub crawling tours which are more budget friendly and always an experience not to be missed. Most of the local population consists of Roman Catholics thanks to the early 17th century settlers. Top attractions and tourists spots include historic architecture and cemeteries. The french quarter is home to some of the best architecture in all of Louisiana inspired from both french and spanish styles of architecture. Other noteworthy attractions include museums, a variety to choose from, ranging from museums for Children to some depicting and explaining the wars over time. The local zoo, amusement parks and the aquarium are other attractions specially for the little ones. The great Mississippi river flows through New Orleans and one can enjoy great views from different parts of the city as well as take river ferry rides or river cruises which are a wonderful experience too. Oddly enough, New Orleans is also home to some freaky occult and voodoo destinations and brings in a lot of visitors interested in this creepy genre of entertainment. Gambling at the local famous casinos is another activity one can undertake while in the city. For the ones looking to get away for a while, there are swamp tours organised at Jean Lafitte Nature Preserve, a free park, with as good a view of local swamp flora and fauna as various pay tours.

Local Culture - When it comes to flaunting one's history and culture, the locals of New Orleans come out on the top. There aren't many places where history and local culture are so well displayed and lived. The cultures have intertwined over time into a beautiful chaos that now describes the city itself.

Dining - If you are in New Orleans, dining is sure to be an enchanting experience. The whole experience is based on culinary aesthetics that will leave your mouth watering for more. Originator of the famous Tobasco, the local dishes deal in hot sauces which aren't compulsory but a favoured choice. Seafood, especially oysters are a favourite. The local cuisine goes by the name of Creole, which is basically a culture that has been here from the beginning.

Things to Keep in Mind - Festive seasons see a huge influx of tourists so make sure to book your stay and trip well in advance. New Orleans is often frequented by hurricanes and such high intensity storms. Doing a double check before the trip is advised. Even though the city is family friendly, particular areas are very adult oriented.
