About Mexico City

Mexicans weren't very creative in naming their capital city. But keeping that aside, Mexico City is everything a travel destination should be, and much more. The city, situated at a high altitude of 2200 metres above sea level, is the most populous city in North America. Mexico city is known as City of Palaces due to the presence of many stately structures spread throughout the vicinity. It has a very complicated history thanks to the Aztecs and further invasions by Europeans. All of these historical complications are solved, broken down and explained in the various Museums of world class standards in Mexico City. The city is large, and so are its attractions. It is home to one of the world’s largest urban parks, Chapultepec, which is a major crowd puller. The area consists of the main city zoo, lots of museums, a castle which is now used as a museum, lakes, an amusement park and walled off mansions of the ultra rich. Mexico City is also famed for its Zocalo square, which is the largest square in Americas and the 3rd largest in the world after Moscow’s Red Square and Beijing’s Tiananmen square. The night life is just as big and full of vibrancy as the city itself. Mexico's capital has the most museums in the world and each one has its own charm. It has some very iconic landmarks all of which have great historical significance. Landmarks sites like La Catedral, Basílica de Guadalupe, Plaza Garibaldi-Mariachi, Coyoacán and El Angel or the angel monument are the most historic ones and a must visit. Shopaholics can head to the Ciudadela crafts market for authentic Mexican crafts or to one of the many malls in the city. Mexico city is very vast and one needs to be up really high to get a good view of the whole region. Torre Latinoamericana is one historical structure looming over the city and offers stunning views. Torre Mayor takes it a step ahead and is the tallest structure in the whole city. A trip to Mexico city is bound to make you come back for more!

Local Culture - Being home to the most museums in the world, Mexico City is surely rich in culture and it takes a whole lot of galleries and museums to cover all this cultural vibrancy. Spanish is the most widely spoken language and a majority of people are Christians. Mexican culture is a cross between European and American as well as native Mexican culture.

Dining - One would expect Mexico City to be all about them tacos. Yes, the city is heaven for Mexican food lovers and excels in the department of gastronomy. But dining options are aplenty and not limited to Mexican cuisines. Many eating outlets offer various cuisines from all over the world. Chiles en nogada, tacos al pastor, mole poblano are some of the signature must try Mexican dishes. Maize, beans, avocados, nuts, red and white meats, cilantro, chillies and oregano are some of the basic ingredients found in most cuisines.

Things to Keep In Mind - As most of the population consists of Catholics, dressing sensibly is the key to not getting kicked out of a museum restaurant or church. Mexicans are very particular about the proper clothes for every occasion. Some people might find it problematic initially to settle in the high altitude environment but it gets better with time.
