Bangkok, Thailand, a Shopping place

About Bangkok

The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, is the most favorite tourist destination among the international travelers. The city is known for its sky touching buildings and exotic nightlife. What was once a small trading port at the bank of river Chao Phraya, is now a cosmopolitan city with a number of wonderful temples, markets, canals and awe inspiring locations.

The city at 14 degrees North of Equator (Bangkok) carries temperature above 30 degrees Centigrade during daytime throughout the year. It has got the reputation as the hottest city in the world. The best time to visit the majestic city of Bangkok is in winter season which lasts from the month of November to February. Its proximity to the equator makes the temperature what it is.

You can reach Bangkok via plane, cruise ship or train depending on your location. The road connectivity enables the visitors to travel conveniently through buses, taxis, and mini bus inside the city. You can also enjoy a trip via boat in canals or just travel in a metro.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and surely doesn't win any Ideal city awards. With all its flaws ranging from hot weather conditions, heavy pollution, overcrowded streets to a very politically unstable environment, any person newly bitten by the travel bug would be surprised to know that Bangkok in fact, has been rated the most visited international destination more times than one. It continues to attract flocks of tourists from all over to world and the numbers grow each year.

It is a city of contrasts. From the air conditioned mega malls in the new Bangkok area to the crowded choking streets of the old town bustling with activity, one cannot imagine them to be the same city. Bangkok is constantly evolving as a modern city while trying to maintain its original charms and practices.

Thailand's capital is known as the street food capital of the world and rightly so! Street food is how most of the tourist world knows about Bangkok. It is iconic to the city's identity in the world and is portrayed as a top activity. Foodies make a point to visit this amazing city just to have a taste of the lip smacking cuisines on offer. The street food scene is more prevalent in the old city with vendors sprawled on both sides of the streets. One can enjoy some street market areas by boat taxis along the riverside.

Shopping is another major attraction in Bangkok with a plethora of malls ranging from budget to luxury, to choose from. The area around Bangkok and that of the city itself has a vibrant epic past the roots of which can be traced back by visiting the great shrines and temples as well as the great palace in the vicinity. A visit to this city of contrasts is an experience within itself.

Local Culture:

Bangkok is a city deeply influenced by Buddhist culture and monks and great monasteries are one of the highlights of the Bangkok experience. The culture of Bangkok is not untouched with the foreign influence but you will easily spot the specialty of the area. The light weight vibrant colored shirts with imprinted trees and leaves, and shorts of Bangkok are famous throughout the world. The ancient temples of the Bangkok speak of the cultural heritage itself.

Your time can be such a heartwarming in here with all types of tours provided here. The tuk tuk tours are the most popular ones which make sure to introduce you to every granule of the Bangkok. These three wheeled vehicles are available at almost every street corner.

The next up is the Bicycle tour. There are a number of agencies which offer bicycles on rent for you to enjoy the streets of the city. There is also option of Nature tour which involves the ziplines, lookout platforms, sky bridges, and open-safari parks.

The canal tours of the Bangkok are also quite popular. Nothing beats a calm and peaceful experience of boating in the backwaters. All of these tours make sure you do not miss any nearby exotic locations of Bangkok like Grand Palace, Wat Arun (the temple of Dawn), Floating market, China Town, What Pho, Soi Cowboy, Jim thompson’s House etc.

Finding affordable eating options is probably the easiest thing to do while in Bangkok. The street food affair mostly consists of non vegetarian dishes but finding a vegetarian dish isn't too hard to find. From seafood to meat and even insects for the adventurous foodies out there, Bangkok has something for everyone. The food in Bangkok is saturated with the local culture. You can find international dishes here but the local dishes are found on every street and corner like Satay, Pad Thai, Tom Yam kung, Khao Man Kai, Fired insects, Kha Niew, kai Yang, massaman Curry etc.

Stay Safe:

Bangkok is quite safe in terms of violent crimes but you should look out for the speedy motor bikes on pavement. A number of Thais are trained in Muay Thai so never get into a fight with the locals. Even the normal folks are gifted with well built and good genes so taking someone head-on is never a good idea in Bangkok. If you have some sort of difficulty, call the Tourist Police by dialing 1155. Although vibrant, the nightlife of Bangkok is infamous and not suitable for families. Gangs and theft cases aren't too uncommon either. The street food scene is not recommended for tourists with high regard of hygiene! And you never know if the chicken soup is actually chicken. That's Bangkok for you!
