Facilities in newly launched Tejas Express from Mumbai to Goa


They say, "It is not the destination, but the journey that matters." With the advent of Tejas Express - a super-luxurious train - one can enjoy the view of the lush green Konkan belt, the pristine seashores at the edge of the Arabian Sea, and the euphoric hills and valleys, even before reaching one's destination.
Through video conferencing, the train was flagged off by the Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, in the presence of Sachin Tendulkar and a few other dignitaries.
The General Manager of the Central Railway, D K Sharma - who inspected the express train - is so impressed with its features that he referred the train as 'an aeroplane moving on the ground'. He went on to add that the experience of travelling by Tejas Express would be better than travelling by an aeroplane.
The train, which is India's first premium train, has garnered so much attention that it has already been booked for the next five days. The Railway Minister is also planning to launch the train service between Bombay and Ahmedabad.
Here is everything that you need to know about the magnum opus train:



1. Loaded with a bevy of amenities
Texas Express is loaded with all the modern facilities such as on-board Wi-Fi, CCTVs, infotainment, LCD screens, magazines, coffee and tea vending machines, fire and smoke detectors, et cetera. Even most of the airlines do not offer such amenities.
2. Speed
The express train will run at an average speed of 130 kilometers per hour (kmph). The highest speed that the express train can clock is 200 kmph. However, its highest speed will go up to 160 kmph, because of operational constraints.
3. Capacity
With 20 coaches in its arsenal, Tejas Express has 12 AC chair cars with a seating capacity of 78 seats in each coach, and one executive AC chair car with a seating capacity of 56 seats.
4. Design
Manufactured at Kapurthala's Rail Coach Factory in Punjab, Tejas Express has automatic entrance/exit doors, just like metro trains do. The body of the train is said to be graffiti proof. The exterior body is covered with vinyl wrapper, and the colour is bright shades of orange and yellow.
5. Route and Schedule
India's first premium train is to operate between Bombay and Karnala in Goa. The trains would run five days a week during the non-monsoon season, and three days a week during the monsoon season. The train would stop at five stations in between, namely - Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri, and Kudal.
Will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai at 05.00 hrs on every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 24.5.2017 and arrive Karmali at 13.30 hrs same day. On return will leave Karmali at 14.30 hrs on every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 23.5.2017 and arrive Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai at 23.00 hrs same day


6. Fare
Unlike what one may presume, the fare for a one-way ticket in Tejas Express is not too high. While the fare for executive class is Rs.2,940 (including food) and Rs.2,540 (excluding food), the fare for AC chair car is Rs.1, 850 (including food) and Rs.1,220 (excluding food). The railways had stated that due to improved facilities it's rates are 20 per cent more than any typical Shatabdi train catering to different route.

7. Safety
The most important aspect from a passenger's point of view is their own safety. Tejas Express has all kinds of modern safety measures in its disposal. There is suppression system, smoke and fire detection system, fire suppression system, along with other basic safety systems.
8. Cleanliness
As a part of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, complete measures have been taken in order to keep the train clean - internally and externally. The toilets are have the facility of bio-vacuum. Touch-less water taps, soap dispenser, hand dryers, and water level indicators have also been installed within the toilets.
9. Braille assistance
Possibly the coolest feature that Tejas Express is equipped with are the Braille assistance that are installed for passengers who are visually challenged.
