And the Most Beautiful sunset of the world award goes to! Kakkathuruthu
Kerala and its Natural backwaters charm has won international recognition of being world's best Sunset
Just like any enthusiastic photographer would capture the beauty of the setting sun in Alappuzha, Kerala-the Land of Gods, National Geographic has listed down its own favorites that inspire millions to go and capture their charm and peculiarity, named 'Around the World in 24 hours'.
Listed among them is Kakkathuruthu, a small island in Kerala's peaceful backwaters in Alappuzha. Bedecked by emerald green, the 'Island of Crows' in Alappuzha is also listed among those selected elite destinations all over the globe that will fascinate a traveler's eye.
This island, which is located near the ancient port city of Kochi, can be reached from the main land only through waterways or boats. The quiet island that it is, Vembanad lake also lines its circumference, often making itself a haven for birdwatchers
Some other destinations on the list:
From the famed aurora borealis in the northern light zone of Norway at midnight to the sun set of Kerala at 6 p.m., this list includes pictures of Hawaii at 5 a.m., Paris at 6 a.m., San Francisco at 7 a.m., Abu Dhabi at 8 a.m., Melbourbe at 9 a.m., New York at 8 p.m., Budapest at 10 p.m., and Kerala at 6 p.m., among others if course, giving us a sneak peek into how the different places across the world look like during different time zones.
The reason why Kakkathuruthu was listed can be understood by seeing the lush coconut groves, non-tarred roads and the landscape they create when when captured by photographers at dusk, when the shadows elongate and the sky shifts from pale blue to sapphire.
Describing it graphically, the magazine says that the sunset in Kerala is accompanied by a series of rituals-women clad in sarees heading homes in skiffs, fishermen lighting lamps ane casting nets into lagoons and bats swooping across the horizon snapping up moths. NatGeo Expeditions further remarks, "If the dawn is awakening and daytime illumination, then twilight is transcendence, a final burst of vitality before darkness falls."
